A fantastic 1969 vintage Erie Lackawanna
Railway Company menu / pamphlet. Measures approximately 5 x 8 inches folded
and 10 x 8 inches unfolded!
The front states:
"Erie Lackawanna Railway Welcomes The County of Morris and Its Guests Aboard
'The New Lakeland Express' On It's Maiden Trip. December 15, 1969. The
Friendly Service Route."
On the first inside page it states:
"The First Air-Conditioned Commuter Cars regularly assigned to the Boonton
Line!
The Boonton Line of the old Lackawanna Railroad was opened for traffic in
1870 primarily as a fast, direct, low gradient freight line which was
intended to by-pass rather than pass through large communities. With the
passing of the years, the population living along and near the railroad
increased greatly, and that meant one thing - commuters.
Until today, the cars in service on this line have been of vintage years.
However, as may be seen, it is felt that a corner has been turned and
'better days are ahead' - as evidenced by the 'New Lakeland Express'
- and efforts to raise the standard of service will be continued.
To the New Jersey Department of Transportation, its Commissioner, the
Honorable David J. Goldberg; and its Assistant Commissioner, Ronald Berman,
go the credit for the purchase, alteration and refurbishing of these
air-conditioned cars which were purchased from the Santa Fe.
Indeed, on December 15, 1969, Morris County and travelers on the Boonton
Line have something to celebrate - and something to look forward to!"
On the second inside page it states:
"THE CELEBRATION DINNER" and it gives a menu of what was served!
IN MINT CONDITION! A FANTASTIC PIECE OF ERIE LACKAWANNA
RAILROAD HISTORY!
